AIOps Is Tearing Down Traditional Technology Siloes

The technology world, and indeed business operations in general, have suffered from the phenomenon of siloes for a long time. Simply put, different teams have had distinct tasks within an organization, with very little crossover, information sharing or collective intelligence. These siloes ultimately have a negative effect on productivity, ingenuity and business operations as a whole.

AIOps can be viewed as a silo disrupter in that it completely changes the traditional approach to technology sharing and collaboration. AIOps platforms collect a variety of data formats from a broad range of sources and pool that intelligence to actually improve technology performance overall. Solutions have a number of key benefits, and when these are taken as a whole, they have the capacity to create a collective intelligence that will boost business value and efficiencies.

IT downtime is a sore spot for most businesses, and yet most organizations deal with outages and interruptions on a fairly regular basis. The result is lost revenue and potentially unhappy customers and employees. AIOps offers a solution through continual improvement, the process of continually learning interruption patterns and applying that knowledge against incoming alerts and threats. By continuously and consistently managing groups of alerts and inferences, IT teams can cut down on response times for individual downtime incidents and maintain a more holistic approach to handling downtime.

AIOps also offers IT teams the ability to reduce “noise.” Most operations teams deal with hundreds or even thousands of alarms and issues each week, taking up significant amounts of their time and resources. AIOps can help teams correlate events by aggregating a variety of data, events, logs and metrics, creating a collective intelligence. This may be used to actually suppress events, sifting out and automating the handling of normal, regular events to enable teams to focus their resources on true abnormalities and issues.

Another massive benefit of AIOps platforms is the ability to detect anomalies to pinpoint problems and gain a more holistic understanding of systems and infrastructure. By recognizing common or even uncommon network issues, AIOps solutions can automate problem solving to speed up response times and minimize downtime and outages. Platforms can also automate and scale workflows based on all the data being gathered and analyzed. This is critical in aiding IT operations teams as they fine-tune and improve workflows to better meet their needs. Essentially, AIOps changes the role of IT to one of auditor, using automation and collective intelligence to create better overall business outcomes.

To learn more about how AIOps is breaking down technology siloes while creating collective intelligence, TMC is hosting AIOps Expo in Fort Lauderdale, FL, from February 12-14, 2020. The event will offer a deep dive into how AI and machine learning are helping to ensure application performance, network performance and security, with a focus on AI for IT operations platforms.
